Taking Eddie Home:
Eddie asked that his ashes be spread "where the grass is green, it does not matter where, it's all one earth" I thought of many beautiful places I could have spread Eddie's ashes; Trinity Alps, Mendocino... The more I thought about it, the more I thought of his wife Helen. Eddie needs to go back to Alabama, the only home he ever knew so that his remains can be laid to rest with his wife. Helen loved Eddie unconditionally. She stood by him during the worst of times and sadly even at the expense of her own well being. I believe Helen represents the families of veterans whose voices are never heard. This trip is for Helen, and all the families who suffer in silence.
Eddie never flew after Normandy, so to honor that I thought a motorcycle road trip with Eddie's comrades would be a fitting tribute to a fallen soldier. I am painfully aware that Eddie is not the only veteran living in unfit conditions, and on this trip I hope to raise awareness of the hardships that veterans and their families endure. The TRIP DETAILS to take Eddie home have been FINALIZED. Eddie’s ashes will be carried on the Run for The Wall leaving Ontario, CA on May 14th, and will take the Central Route to Washington, D.C. and then on to Eddie’s final destination in Alabama. The Pentagon is working on a service for Eddie while in Washington, D.C., details will be provided as we have them. For information regarding the Run for The Wall please visit their website at www.rftw.org. I read of this on the bikerworlds website; it brought tears to my eyes. If I could participate, I would, but what I could do is push it in the forums there to pick up riders even if its only a 50 mile accompaniment down the road.

This story opened my eyes and made tears roll down my cheeks. Sarge, you brought this story too my attention and I am glad you did. It is to easy to forget about the sacrifices our soldiers made and are still making. It is easy to not think about the internal and external scars the soldiers will bear for life. Most of us just sit in our cozy home and complain about what we don't have, or can't do as we sit and sip on our fancy coffee. It is because of others sacrifices that we live in peace. We should all do something to help our men and women in the military before, during, and after their tour. I will pass the word about this site. I don't ride so I will not make the journey with you to take Eddie home, but I will find a way to contribute to the mission.

We are in Middle TN and can go as far as the Alabama State line...maybe even a little farther. Let us know where and when. It would be an honor to help escort this soldier home.

I live between Abbeville and Eufaula Alabama about 55 miles north of Dothan. I am a Road Guard on the Southern Route and a member of the SE Alabama Patriot Guard.

I hit the send button too fast. What are the plans on leaving DC for Dothan? We normally leave Memorial Day about 8 AM stopping in Concord, NC and then the next night in Alabama. What does your schedule look like.

Pam I cant thank you enough for allowing me to carry Eddie's ashes (a WWII hero) strapped to Jack Richardson's bike on my trailer, on his journey back home. And drinking a toast from Eddie's beer to his service and sacrifices along with the Bush bros, MamaDukes, DC, Skeater(who drank from his water) and a host of others at the VFW Hall is now a moment and grand memory in my life that I will never forget. and seeing two of the VETs salute him brought me tears of pride and honor
