5 April 1965

The Honorable Lyndon B. Johnson

President United States

Washington, D.C.  20005

Dear President Johnson:

We have progressed quite a ways since early 1960...proving that hard work and good planning can truly provide great accomplishments.  I want to make a few important points that government badly needs to know.

ONE:  YOU CAN DELEGATE AUTHORITY...BUT YOU CANNOT DELEGATE RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!

TWO:  PEOPLE TURN TO EXTREMISTS WHEN GOVERNMENT FAILS TO PROVIDE JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!!

Every public official takes a sacred oath to honor and protect, the rights of all Americans, yes, the rights of the blackest one, too!

LET US REMOVE THE NEED FOR AGITATION...AND THE DEMONSTRATIONS WILL STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT THE DEMONSTRATIONS MUST NOT STOP SHORT OF EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL AMERICANS!!!!!!

Millions of veterans turn to money-grubbing sharpers simply because these veterans do not believe they can get a fair deal from V.A.

Let me ask you...how does church expect to teach and preach morality, when church has both hands in the public treasury, and arbitrarily refuses to respect the constitutional principle of religion, the law, and the rights of people?

Such arbitrary disregard for law and people will destroy church.  The only possible justification for church is service to humanity.

Of all our organizations, church should be fist and foremost with respect for the rights of people...AND LAW.

WE MUST REPLACE FEAR OF LAW WITH FAITH IN JUSTICE...FOR ALL OUR PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

U.S. Courts order workers back to work...but U.S. Courts do not order management to become honest and responsible.

Government better quit using scape-goats to divert our attention to such things as minor thefts, while billions are illegally misappropriated.

Government must make plain the fact that our U.S. Government is required by law to supervise federal funds...this is supervision, not control

Government is learning the necessary art of using appropriate spokesmen to make important announcements...the inquisition to ferret out leaks among federal employees will boomer-rang, unless handled properly.  The great majority of federal people are good and decent, and honest...as are most Americans.

Friendlily, Eddie H. Livingston
