20 January1963 The Honorable George Andrews United States Congressman Washington 25 D.C. Dear Congressman Andrews, The election is over, my vote has been cast but even so your prolonged silence is incomprehensible. Silence can speak louder than words I think I get the message. Apparently my government has abandoned me to the tender mercies of such men as Kendrick and such agencies as V.A. All my deeds are done are in the book. But I still bleed. Not from enemy wounds but from the knowledge that I have been "Used" in war and politics. It is a most distressing bit of knowledge.
There is just one suitable alternative open to me. I think I ought to take my gun and blow my brains out. That would I do believe give greater comfort and relief to my government, whom you represent. I can see no other way. I did my best in war. Maybe it wasn't much, but it was my best and no man need feel ashamed of his best. I have tried to do my best since the war. If I had been shown one iota of consideration things could be different. But that is wishful thinking. I was not shown one iota of consideration; hence I come to my last decision. It ought to be I hope it will be of great comfort and relief to yourself and my government. If there is a better way it must be demonstrated words are nothing... NOTHING! DISAPPOINTEDLY, Eddie H.
